The Best of Dartmoor
On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, The Old Dairy has been tastefully decorated in a modern rustic style, by the owners, Barrie and Mark, who live in the adjacent Mill Barn, part of a small hamlet of converted agricultural and mill buildings. French windows look directly onto the River Teign and the Dunsford Stepping Stones: a public right of way leading to numerous footpaths winding through the medieval Bridford Wood and beyond. The pretty village of Dunsford is a gentle 10-minute walk across the fields with its small village shop and post office, tearoom, pub and church.
Local wildlife is abundant and includes kingfishers, dippers, buzzards, owls, bats, otters, deer and numerous woodland birds. The famous Steps Bridge beauty spot and Dunsford Wood, maintained by Devon Wildlife Trust, is just a few minutes walk away. The picturesque moorland town of Moretonhampstead is about 5 miles away with a small range of shops, pubs and cafes and the moors and tors beyond. Eight miles in the opposite direction is the ancient city of Exeter with its shops, restaurants and bars, university and splendid Gothic cathedral.
